The best way to help keep a Tankless Water Heater

Over time, a tankless water heater can collect mineral deposits that can build up on and erode the walls inside the tank's heating chamber. To properly maintain and clean your tankless water heater, you have to get rid of and take out the mineral deposits from the tank at least once per year. Continue on reading to learn how you can maintain your tankless water heater to ensure its optimal performance and efficiency.

Step 1: Turn off the power supply for your tankless water heater
This can be done by shutting off the main gas or shutting off the circuit breaker for electrical devices.

Step 2: Close and turn off the 3 water valves connected to your tankless water heater.
This approach should prevent cold water from flowing into the water heater and prevent hot water from emerging during the cleaning process.
The water valves consist of a cold water valve that might be colored blue, a hot water valve that might be colored red, and a third main valve that flows the water into the home.

Step 3: Take out the purge port valve caps carefully from the purge valves located on each of the cold and hot water valves.
The purge valves have little handles that mimic the letter "T"
This process is done to relieve any pressure that has built inside the valves and will prevent excess hot water from shooting out and coming into contact with your skin.
There can be pressure when taking out the purge port valve caps, therefore it's very essential to make sure the hot water valve is totally and accurately shut off for safety purposes.
Handle each cap carefully to be sure the runner washer sealing discs stay in place, which are required for your valves to function correctly.

Step 4: connect the hosing lines to each of the 3 valves.
If your manufacturer of your tankless water heater didn't provide you with hosing lines, you can buy them from any retail store specializing in home repair or water heater unit. The hosing lines will have to be long enough to get between the water heater and your bucket.
You might need to consult your guide book supplied by the tankless water heater's manufacturer or speak to the manufacturer directly for exact directions regarding this process.
In some cases, this process may require you to have a sump pump and connect hoses that will discharge and flush water from the tankless water heater using the cold and hot water valves.

Step 5: Open the purge port valves by turning them perpendicularly to the position of the cold and hot valves.

Step 6: Use 2.5 gallons (9.46 liters) of undiluted white vinegar to clean your tankless water heater always rather than chemical solutions.
Since the tankless water heater is most likely the way to obtain all your water supply and bathing water, using chemical cleaning solutions could be extremely harmful to your health.

Step 7: Perform the flushing and draining process by following the directions provided by the maker of the tankless water heater.
This process may take up to 45 minutes.

Step 8: Close the purge port valves by turning the "T" shaped handles after the flushing process has been completed.

Step 9: Detach and take off the hosting lines from each water valve.

Step 10: Change the purge port valve caps onto the purge valves.
Tighten the caps completely and firmly without damaging the rubber sealing discs located inside the caps.

Step 11: Check with the manufacturer's manual of the tankless water heater for exact directions on how to safely re-start your water heater unit.
This procedure may just need you to rotate and open the cold and hot water valves so they are parallel to the position of the main valve that leads into the house.

Step 12: Turn on the hot water tap in the sink little by little to allow the air to move through the pipe.
Continue to run the water until it runs steadily without air escaping.
This process may take up to 2 or 3 minutes.
